Project Safe Send helps North Dakotans legally dispose of unusable pesticides. It accepts any pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides and fungicides) that are old, unusable or banned. It is free. The program is open to farmers, ranchers, pesticide dealers and applicators, government agencies, homeowners and the general public. After the pesticides are collected, they are packed and shipped out of state for incineration. The program is funded through fees paid by pesticide manufacturers to register their products in North Dakota.

Empty containers or containers of paint or oil are not accepted at the collection sites. Pesticide rinse water is also accepted. People with more than 1,000 pounds of pesticides should preregister by contacting Jeremiah Lien, state Department of Agriculture, 800-242-7535 or jjlien@nd.gov. Pesticide rinse water is also accepted; the first 100 pounds is free; $1 per additional pound will be charged.

Anyone with questions may contact Lien.
