A call for fantasy football

An interesting request came my way the other day wondering if we’d be running any fantasy football stuff in the near future.
We haven’t in the past only because little is available to us in what we can use. Anybody can go to a 1,000 different web sites for fantasy anything these days. My brother tried to get me into a fantasy English Premier soccer league last summer. I enjoy watching Premier League soccer quite a bit, but as I told him, “Fantasy soccer? An intervention may be in order here, son.”
Anyways, the larger point is that football, American style, of course, is rapidly approaching.
A month from now 9-man teams from all over the area will be in final preparations for their season-openers on Aug. 21.
Just three days later, both the Jimmies and Blue Jays kick their campaigns off as well.
Jamestown College will make the long bus ride to Miles City, Mont., to play Rocky Mountain, while JHS maneuvers around Devils Lake to play the Firebirds.
Practice for high school and college teams are just a couple weeks away. It’s even closer for the Minnesota Vikings. They open training camp in Mankato next week (July 26).
The Jimmies, Blue Jays and Vikings all had rough seasons last year, but with each new season comes fresh hope.
I told the fantasy footballer that I’d see if I could find some weekly content to use in the Sun. If anybody out there wants to be my fantasy football go-to-guy, please contact me by email or phone.
Fantasy football is not my thing. I’ve been in the same fantasy baseball league for 15 years and that’s all I can take in a calendar year. But we all know those folks who are in three and four leagues each — that’s the person we’re looking for here.
Of course, it’s a slippery slope these fantasy leagues. You get in one, two, maybe a third and then even a fourth. You need to be careful, though, or one day you’ll find yourself in a fantasy soccer league.
