Belfield zoning board approves 'teacher camp'

Belfield's zoning board is allowing the local school to use city-owned land for teacher housing.

BELFIELD, N.D. (AP) — Belfield's zoning board is allowing the local school to use city-owned land for teacher housing.

School board member Tony Krebs says the school district will put up some mobile homes. He says it's difficult for Belfield to hire teachers, and the mobile homes offer an affordable housing option.

The city-owned property has been zoned for commercial use. The Belfield City Council has agreed to turn over at least six building lots for mobile homes. The district has an option for two additional lots.

The Dickinson Press reports Thursday the school district will be leasing the land for five years. Any unused property will revert back to commercial use.
