Beaver Lake State Park reaches milestone

Beaver Lake State Park in southeastern North Dakota is celebrating its 80th anniversary.

NAPOLEON, N.D. (AP) — Beaver Lake State Park in southeastern North Dakota is celebrating its 80th anniversary.

The state Parks and Recreation Department says the park near Napoleon doesn’t get a lot of respect because of its size and location, but it has a faithful group of visitors that continues to grow in size.

Manager Jim Loken said the park might be small, but it offers a variety of recreation opportunities, including boating, swimming and camping. He said last year was a record year for visitation and camping at the park, and this year’s numbers are ahead of that pace.

The park scheduled a celebration of its anniversary on Saturday and waived the daily entrance fee.
