Developers ask Fargo to drop liquor license fee

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Land developers in Fargo are asking for a new type of liquor license they say will level the playing field with cheaper alternatives in neighboring West Fargo.

The Forum reports that developers lobbied last week for a modified food and alcohol license that would drop start-up fees. The license would be usable only in a mile-wide corridor that marks the border with West Fargo.

Fargo has a $100,000 issuance fee for the license used by restaurants that serve alcohol at a bar.

West Fargo has no issuance fee for a similar license.

City officials say they'll study the matter. But they also say there's little evidence the disparity is driving businesses away.
