Zonta Club notes club’s history
Zonta Club President-elect Pam Phillips called the June 6 meeting to order. The program was “Looking back, Looking forward on the last years of Zonta in Jamestown.” 2012 is the 60th anniversary of Zonta of Jamestown. This year’s international convention will be held in Torrino, Italy. The 2014 convention will be in Orlando, Fla.

Zonta members assisted with registration for Running of the Pink and had eight participate in the run. A cash donation was also made to the event.
Installation of officers was held. Phillips became president, Kara Helgeson became president-elect, Danica Chaput became director and Kim Kapp became secretary. Linda Mohn will continue in the position of treasurer.
It was decided to again participate in the Community Block Party. The emphasis will be placed on encouraging students to vote.
Renovations are being completed on the Zonta Park cupola. Gerald Johnson of Home Rescuers has been contracted to do the restoration. To date funds have been received from the Jamestown Community Foundation, City Beautification Committee, Barb Lang and Zonta Club of Jamestown. Donations can be made to the Jamestown Community Foundation with funds designated to Zonta Park for restoration of the cupola.
At the May 2 meeting, the finance committee reported on fundraising events and a vote was taken on where to allocate the money. Sixty-seven percent of funds raised are donated locally and 33 percent to international causes. The recipient of funds from the February Chilifest fundraiser was the local Sexual Abuse Response Team program and Running of the Pink. Discussion was also held on creating a line item for a scholarship program to help pay for certified nursing assistant training and licensing. Chocolate Fantasia was deemed a success and the vendors were pleased with the turnout and response.
The next meeting will be a social Wednesday at Christine Burchill’s home.
