Engvall began his comedy career performing at open-mic nights in Dallas while a student at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
Upon graduation, he moved to Los Angeles where he made appearances performing on “The Tonight Show” and “The Late Show with David Letterman.” His career breakthrough came in 1992 after being named “Best Male Standup” at the American Comedy Awards.
He is known for his participation in the Blue Collar Comedy Tour with fellow comedians Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White and Larry the Cable Guy. The group has toured six times since 2000 and has produced albums and DVDs, in addition to their own TV series, “Blue Collar TV.”
In addition to his Blue Collar shows and films, Engvall has also had two solo specials broadcasted on Comedy Central. “Here’s Your Sign, Live” aired on Comedy Central on Aug. 1, 2004, and premiered to 3.6 million total viewers, with the DVD of that special being certified multi-platinum. “15° Off Cool” aired on March 25, 2007, and was one of the highest-rated specials on Comedy Central that year.
Engvall is also a platinum selling recording artist. His first album, “Here’s Your Sign,” has been certified platinum and held the no. 1 position on the Billboard Comedy Chart for 15 straight weeks. It went on to peak at No. 5 on Billboard’s Current Country Album Chart and reached the Top 50 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart.
