Grafton scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally past LaMoure 10-7 in winner’s-bracket action of the Class B state tournament on Thursday night.
Post 19 was one out away from going 2-0 on its home field, but Grafton used a pair of defensive misplays and a two-run double by Zach Suda to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 10-5 advantage. LaMoure’s rally in the bottom of the seventh fell short and Grafton escaped with a 10-7 win.
LaMoure committed six errors in the game, but four of them came in the decisive seventh inning.
Trailing 4-0 through 4 1/2 innings, Post 19 hung five runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. Zach Stemen had the key hit, delivering a two-run single to plate the tying and go-ahead runs.
LaMoure faces Washburn today at 5 p.m. in a loser-out game. Grafton meets Wahpeton in the semifinals.
Velva 4, Casselton 3
Velva insured there will be a new Class B champion this year.
Two-time defending champion Casselton was the first team sent packing as Velva hung on for a 4-3 win.
Velva scored three runs in the third and another in the fourth and pitcher Jonathan Mack made it stand up. Mack was the only player in the game with two hits as well, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Ty Bruner added a hit, run and RBI.
Ross Radermacher went the distance on the mound for Casselton, but was saddled with the loss.
Nicholas Wilcox had an RBI triple for Casselton.
Lisbon 5, Garrison 4
Lisbon kept its season alive with a one-run win over Garrison in loser-out action.
It got hairy late, though as Garrison scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to get within 5-4, but ace Derek Lyons got the last two outs, both on Ks, to end it.
Hunter Mairs worked the first 6 1/3 innings for Lisbon to get the win.
Lisbon banged out 13 hits led by Tyler Mittleider’s 3-for-4 outing. Jace Berg and Wyatt Aberle each contributed two hits.
Garrison had just six hits, but drew four walks and Lisbon committed two errors.
Losing pitcher Matt Landenberger went 2-for-4 for Garrison.
