Bravo to Farm Rescue for expansion into Iowa

The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos and a buffalo chip this week:

* Bravo to estimates that North Dakota’s production of natural gas could quadruple by 2025.

* Buffalo chip to the South Korean, Indonesian and Chinese badminton teams in the Olympics that deliberately lost matches in the double-elimination tournament with the goal of altering which teams they faced. The teams were disqualified for their poor sportsmanship.

* Bravo to Farm Rescue for expanding into its fifth state, Iowa. The aid organization helps family farmers deal with hardships like injuries, illnesses and disasters.

* Bravo to Jamestown High School senior Jake Stilwell, who was chosen to play hockey in the Elite 1 League in Minnesota. The league allows hockey standouts to play preseason hockey before school starts.

* Bravo to Alissa Langbehn, of Jamestown, who earned her Girl Scout Gold Award with a project to install recycling bins all over the Stutsman County Fairgrounds. Also, bravo to the 4-H clubs that will take all the material from the bins and get it recycled.

* Bravo to Michael Phelps, who broke the world record for Olympic medals this week with the 21st medal, and 17th gold one at that, in his career.

* Bravo to all the people and organizations that contributed to the reward being offered to anyone with information about the wasteful killing of nine cattle in western North Dakota. Donations have raised the bounty to $18,000 for information about the July 4 shooting that leads to an arrest and conviction.

* Bravo to the North Dakota State Fair rebounding to set a new attendance record after being closed by flooding in 2011. Officials said 310,839 people attended this year’s nine-day fair.
