Applicants are encouraged to apply for funding through Northern Plains Operation Round Up. The deadline to submit an application for third-quarter awards is Aug. 27.

Made possible by the generosity of Northern Plains Electric Cooperative members, ORU raises funds for local worthy individuals and charitable organizations by rounding up members’ monthly energy bills to the next dollar. Each applicant may receive up to $2,500.

The rounded-up cents are placed in a trust that is overseen by a five-member board comprised of Northern Plains members. ORU board members meet quarterly to disburse the funds to worthy individuals and organizations. Every year, the ORU trust contributes approximately $35,000 to people and causes facing hardships. In the past, ORU has assisted individuals facing medical dilemmas and has helped school and community organizations. Since the program was launched in 1998, it has disbursed $492,812 to 630 local causes.

For more information about this program, contact Northern Plains Electric Cooperative by emailing tamia@nplains.com, calling 800-882-2500; or obtain guidelines and download applications at www.nplains.com.
