Merchants top Expos for 14th win

The Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants improved to 14-9 on the season with a 6-2 win over the Fargo Expos on Wednesday night.

The Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants improved to 14-9 on the season with a 6-2 win over the Fargo Expos on Wednesday night.

Joe Vannett led the way for the Merchants offensively, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Jared Purdy walked twice and scored both times. Anthony Fontana was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Merchants used five pitchers with ace Greg Lunski starting with two scoreless innings to get the win.

Up next for the Merchants is next weekend’s Class AAA state tournament in Jamestown. They open against the Expos at 5:30 p.m. The three-time defending Jamestown Elks follow in Game 2 against Groton, S.D.
