Beach, Fairmount's big right-hander, sailed through seven innings, allowing only three singles and a double en route to the complete-game win, which took just 78 minutes.

It was scoreless until Brad Olson doubled home Jon Lapp with one out in the bottom of the fifth. Lapp had singled while hitting 10th in Fairmount's lineup, which included an extra hitter.

Beach did not need any insurance, but he got some in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Jared Johnson ripped a double into left-center field to score Joey Hasse and Lapp for Fairmount's third and fourth runs.

Johnson reached base three times. He was hit twice. Stiles was also on twice with a single and two walks.

Leadoff man Cliff Vazquez and 3-hole hitter Scott Stephenson accounted for all four of Valley City's hits. The Saints' best chance to score came in the top of the sixth, but Kirk Olson lined crisply back to Beach, who caught Stephenson off third to end the threat.

Beach finished with five strikeouts.

Valley City pitcher Colby Aasand allowed only four hits, but walked four and hit three more.

Fairmount plays the first pool-play game today against the Jamestown Tarno Townies.

Valley City plays the third game of Saturday's four pool-play games, also against Jamestown, at 3 p.m.

Fargo 9,

Kindred 0 (5 Innings)

Things were over early in Game 2.

The Fargo Jays scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning, which was way more than pitcher Bryce Venaas needed.

The first six Jays to hit all scored with clean-up man Cole Honl delivering the big blow with a bases-loaded double. Kindred kicked it around in the inning too, committing two errors. Pitcher Alex Althoff also walked two batters in the frame.

The big inning for the Jays also included a double for 5-hole hitter Matt Fiechtner, which kicked off a double-homer-single outing. His solo shot in the bottom of the second, the first home run of the week by any player, made it 7-0 Fargo.

The Jays ended it early with two more in the bottom of the fifth. Fiechtner got it started with a single, but two more errors also helped. Kindred committed five miscues in five innings.

Venaas surrendered just one single and a walk in five innings with four strikeouts.

Fargo plays in the final game today against Enderlin. Kindred also plays Enderlin, but at 1 p.m.
