The Jamestown Planning Commission requested a planning professional be added to the city payroll during its regular meeting Monday. The commission passed the resolution unanimously. Members also intend to make their request in person during the City Council’s preliminary budget meeting Wednesday.
The position could be either part-time, full-time or shared with the county, said Harley Trefz, commission chairman.
“We need the services of a professional planner,” he said. “One of the tasks would be rewriting the city ordinances related to planning and zoning but also for helping the committee with its operations.”
In other action, the Planning Commission gave preliminary approval to two plats.
Wanzek Addition would create four lots on previously unplatted lands northwest of Louis L’Amour School.
The second plat creates two lots in an unplatted area west of the Anne Carlsen Center and adjacent to the railroad right of way.
Final hearings for both plats will be held during the Planning Commission’s meeting on Sept. 10.
