Upon learning that KVLY will not be running the Coats for Kids program this year, Ave Maria Village, the Salvation Army and One Hour Martinizing are continuing the collection program for this area.
Tom Geffre, chaplain at Ave Maria Village, said, “When I called KVLY to ask when they would be beginning the Coats for Kids drive this year, I was told that the television station decided to try a different public relations program this year and they were discontinuing the Coats campaign for now.”
Geffre said he talked with the Lt. Mitch Brecto at the Salvation Army and he was also surprised with KVLY’s decision. Brecto said the Salvation Army has a great need for winter clothing and was glad that something was being done in this area to collect the needed coats, gloves, winter caps, boots and snowsuits of all sizes.
Collection sites will be Ave Maria Village, the Salvation Army and One Hour Martinizing.
The local campaign will run from Aug. 16–Sept. 8. Any donated winter items mentioned above should be clean and in good working order. People may drop off their items at any of the listed collection sites during business hours.
