Elks edge Merchants at state amateur tournament

The Jamestown Elks are one win away from a fourth-straight Class AAA state amateur baseball tournament championship.

The Jamestown Elks are one win away from a fourth straight Class AAA state amateur baseball tournament championship.

The Elks defeated the Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants 5-3 Saturday in winner's-bracket action at Jack Brown Stadium.

The game started 52 minutes late due to a rain delay.

Elks reliever Jay Flaa worked four shutout innings to earn the save on the mound. He entered with the Elks up just 4-3.

Jordan Tescher had three hits and an RBI as the Elks outhit the Merchants 12-5.

Travis Kurokawa got the win on the mound despite five shaky innings, which included five walks.

Bryan Erstad bombed his second home run in as many days, a two-run shot in the fifth for the Merchants. Joe Vannett added a pair of singles.

The Merchants take on the Fargo Expos at 6:15 p.m. in a loser-out game. The winner plays the Elks at 1 p.m. Sunday in the championship.
