Taylor Barnes, director of the Jamestown Arts Center, was the guest speaker at the Jamestown Rotary Club meeting on Aug. 14. She was introduced by Rotary President Quincy Backen. Taylor told the club about a new program at the Arts Center. The city is one of four in the nation to be selected for a diversity program that will be coming to Jamestown. The group will be coming from Morocco and will be putting on programs throughout the community. There are many volunteer opportunities to be a part of this program. The Jamestown Rotary Club is on board to support this program. Barnes also presented information about the remodeled Arts Center building, upcoming performances, artists-in-residence, classes for adults and special events.

Quincy Backen presided over the meeting. “Happy Dollars” were collected for Stuff the Bus. The invocation was given by Harold Bensch and Doug Frolich led the singing. Sergeant of arms was Jason Bitz. Harold Bensch gave a two-minute talk. Rotary members were reminded of next week’s meeting with District Gov. Don Cavalier. Dave Smette gave an update on Rotary International. So far this year, Rotary has done $11 million in projects around the world and $5 million in projects locally in the district.
