Jimmies open 2012 season with a win

Jamestown College kicked off its men’s soccer season with a victory against Bellevue University in Omaha, Neb. on Wednesday night.

Sophomore midfielder Ellis Riley, of Leads, England, scored the only goal of the game, assisted by West Fargo’s Jade Johnson, in the closing minutes of the second half as the Jimmies escaped with a 1-0 victory.

Riley’s first goal of the young season came just over 85 minutes into match. The officials were kept busy in this one, as Jamestown (16) and Bellevue (11) combined for 27 fouls.

Each team was assessed three yellow cards in the match, while Jamestown College’s Matt Balshaw received a red card at 76:33.

The Jimmies’ junior goalkeeper Thomas Cooke recorded the victory in the net, turning away all four shots on goal he faced.

Jamestown College (1-0) now travels to Atchison, Kan., where they’ll face Benedictine College on Friday.
