The Jamestown High School football team got off to a strong start Friday in Devils Lake right before Mother Nature intervened, causing officials to postpone the contest until 3 p.m. today.

Jamestown embarked on a 10-play, 74-yard to start the game that culminated in a 19-yard touchdown strike from senior quarterback Matt Grounds to senior receiver C.J. Soulis.

However, 30 seconds after Jamestown kicker Ryan Hillerud drove home the extra point, a large flash of lightning caused a significant postponement. Not long after, heavy rains started, and after a 1 hour, 40 minute delay, the game was officially postponed shortly after 9 p.m.

It was a solid debut for Jamestown first-year head coach Tim Fletcher, whose offense ran the ball eight times and saw Grounds complete both of his passes. The success came exclusively out of the I-formation.

Jamestown opens at home next Friday vs. Grand Forks Red River.

Look for today’s game in Monday’s edition of the Sun.
