Rough opener for Jimmies

A slow start did in the Jimmies Friday night. Jamestown College couldn’t get anything going early in its season-opener against Rocky Mountain College in Miles City, Mont., and dug a 31-7 second-quarter hole. The Battlin’ Bears of the Frontier Conference pushed the lead to 38-7 in the third quarter before the Jimmies scored the last 12 points of the game for the 38-19 final.

A slow start did in the Jimmies Friday night.

Jamestown College couldn’t get anything going early in its season-opener against Rocky Mountain College in Miles City, Mont., and dug a 31-7 second-quarter hole. The Battlin’ Bears of the Frontier Conference pushed the lead to 38-7 in the third quarter before the Jimmies scored the last 12 points of the game for the 38-19 final.

In their first seven possessions, the Jimmies punted five times and fumbled it away twice.

Rocky Mountain College didn’t do much early either, but scored on three straight possessions in the second quarter. Quarterback Bryce Barker ran for one score and threw three more for the Battlin’ Bears.

The Jimmies got the last score of the first half when Gus Ramasco connected with Casey Glenn on a 21-yard scoring strike.

The teams traded scores in the third. The Jimmies scored on a Matt Mithaugen one-yard dive. The Battlin’ Bears pulled some of their starters early. The Jimmies scored the final six of the game in the fourth quarter and had one late drive stall out with an interception near the goal line.

C.J. Costello had a first-half interception for the Jimmies that stunted a RCM drive deep in JC territory. But from there they scored touchdowns on four of their final drives of the second half.

The Jimmies play their home-opener Saturday, Sept. 1 when they host the Concordia Cobbers at 1 p.m.
