Four people sentenced on felony charges

A Jamestown woman was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty in Southeast District Court here to nine felony drug-related charges.

A Jamestown woman was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty in Southeast District Court here to nine felony drug-related charges.

Kami Elle Nelson, 25, 2965 85th Ave. SE, was charged with: delivery of a controlled substance, a Class A felony; seven possession of controlled substance charges, Class C felonies; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C felony.

Nelson was accused of possessing and delivering methamphetamine; possessing synthetic cannabinoids, hashish, carisoprodol, zolpidem and alprazolam; possessing drug paraphernalia used with drugs other than marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia, all on Dec. 9.

She was also accused of possessing synethic cannabinoids and drug paraphernalia used with drugs other than marijuana on Oct. 3.

Judge John Greenwood sentenced Nelson to four years at the North Dakota Department of Corrections on the Oct. 3 possession of a controlled substance charge. Greenwood sentenced Nelson to six years with the Department of Corrections on the delivery of a controlled substance charge related to the Dec. 9, incident. She was given credit for 14 days already served. The two prison sentences are to be served concurrently.

Greenwood also recommended she be placed in the Tompkins Rehabilitation and Corrections Center.

In addition, Nelson was sentenced to two years supervised probation and not to own or possess a firearm for two years.

She was ordered to pay a $900 criminal administration fee, $100 defense/facility administration fee and $25 victim-witness fee on the delivery of a controlled substance charge. An additional $25 victim-witness fee was ordered on each of her six other charges.

A Class A felony carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. A Class C felony has a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Three other people were sentenced in separate cases in Southeast District Court.

Ramsey Steven Wadkins, 23, 1615 Second Place NE, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C felony, and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) by a driver and carrying a concealed firearm or weapon, Class A misdemeanors.

Wadkins was accused of possession of drug paraphernalia used for drugs other than marijuana, possessing less than one-half ounce of marijuana while operating a motor vehicle and carrying a concealed Sig Sauer .45 caliber handgun. All charges occurred about April 29.

Judge Thomas E. Merrick deferred the imposition of the sentence for two years and placed Wadkins on supervised probation for two years on the possession of drug paraphernalia charge.

Wadkins was sentenced to 33 days in the Stutsman County Correctional Center with three days credit for time served on the charge of carrying a concealed weapon. He is to report to the jail at 10 a.m. Nov. 15.

Merrick ordered him to pay a $400 criminal administration fee, $100 defense/facility administration fee, $25 indigent defense application fee, $300 indigent recoupment and $25 victim-witness fee on the possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He was also ordered to pay a $25 victim-witness fee for each of the other two charges.

A Class C felony is punishable by five years in prison and a fine of $5,000. Class A misdemeanors are punishable by one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Brandon William Grim, 27, Fayetteville, Ark., pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony.

Grim was accused of possessing cocaine around Sept. 4, 2007.

Judge John Greenwood sentenced Grim to 90 days in the Stutsman County Correctional Center with credit for seven days already served. He also sentenced Grim to undergo a chemical dependency evaluation and placed him on supervised probation for two years.

Grim was ordered to pay $2,859 in restitution. A $400 criminal administration fee and a $100 defense/facility fee were waived.

Angel Lea Ripley, 21, 1204 10th Ave. NE, Apt 2, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C felony.

Ripley was accused of possessing items used in conjunction with controlled substances other than marijuana around May 24.

Judge Thomas Merrick sentenced Ripley to 40 hours of community service, to not own or possess firearms for two years and to have a chemical dependency evaluation. She was also placed on supervised probation.

Ripley was ordered to pay a $25 community service supervision fee, $400 criminal administration fee, $100 defense/facility fee, $25 indigent defense application fee, $300 indigent recoupment and $25 victim-witness fee.
