A report from a university research professor said North Dakota led the nation in job growth in the past year.

Professor Lee McPheters of Arizona State University said the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that non-agricultural jobs in North Dakota grew 6.9 percent from July 2011 to July this year. He said California came in second with job growth of 2.6 percent for the same period, while job growth nationally was 1.4 percent.

McPheters North Dakota has the nation’s top job growth thanks largely to oil and gas production.
