Wins against East Region powers Fargo Davies and West Fargo on Saturday highlighted the weekend for the Jamestown High School volleyball team at the BHS-CHS Invitational.

All in all, the Blue Jays looked pretty good.

Sporting the round-robin tournament’s only 7-0 record, Blue Jays coach Sara Hegerle got the showing she was looking for from her squad.

“For Jamestown, it’s about confidence,” she said. “We’ve started out 7-0 and played some good teams. That should give us confidence the rest of the year.”

The Blue Jays beat Fargo Davies 25-17, 19-25, 15-9 right away that helped set the tone for the rest of the day.

“We faltered a bit in set 2, but we finished strong,” Hegerle said.

Jamestown downed Grand Forks Central 25-21, 23-25, 15-6, after Central had logged a win over Minot. It followed with a relatively simple 25-20, 25-17, 15-12 victory against Valley City.

A big 25-18, 25-17 sweep of West Fargo capped a near-perfect tournament for the Blue Jays.

“I’m not surprised, but I think people are surprised,” said Hegerle, whose team went 5-2 in the tournament last year.

Addie Eamon’s 48 kills and 15 blocks led the Jays on Saturday. Siri Jystad added 39 kills and 14 aces while McKayla Orr had 95 digs and 11 aces.

Setters Josie Hegerle and Rebekah Horgan had 84 and 69 assists, respectively. The Blue Jays host Minot at 7 p.m. Thursday.

“It was really fun to see the hard work and all they’ve done in the offseason and the first two weeks pay off,” Hegerle said. “This kind of validates what we’ve been working on.”
