Defending state Class A champions Stanley-Powers Lake tops the first state Class A high school football poll of the season, voted on by the state’s sportswriters and sportscasters and released on Wednesday.

Stanley-Powers Lake received all 11 first-place votes, with Heart River, Oakes, Harvey-Wells County and Linton-HMB rounding out the top five, respectively.
The first 9-man poll of the season was much less decisive, as four of the top five teams all received at least one first-place vote.
Wyndmere-Lidgerwood tops the poll with six first-place votes, while North Star (3) is ranked second, Cavalier (1) is ranked fourth and the defending state champs, Napoleon-GS (1), ranked fifth. The third spot is currently being held down by Divide County.
Other area teams receiving votes were South Border and Lakota-Adams-Edmore.
