Optimist Club honors athletes

Jamestown High School’s Addie Eamon and Matt Grounds, along with Jamestown College’s Sarah Becker and Ellis Riley, were chosen as the Jamestown Optimist Club’s athletes of the week.

Jamestown High School’s Addie Eamon and Matt Grounds, along with Jamestown College’s Sarah Becker and Ellis Riley, were chosen as the Jamestown Optimist Club’s athletes of the week.

Eamon, a junior middle hitter on the Blue Jay volleyball team, helped lead the Jays to seven wins at the Bismarck Invitational this past weekend. Eamon led the team with 48 kills and 15 blocks.

Grounds, a senior quarterback of the Blue Jay football team, knocked down three passes on defense and posted 124 yards passing in last week’s game vs. Devils Lake. Two of his passes were caught for touchdowns.

Becker, a junior on the Jimmie volleyball team, tallied 54 kills hitting at a .356 clip and recorded 16 blocks as Jamestown went 2-2 at the highly competitive NW College Tournament.

Becker is a native of Rochester, Minn.

Riley, a sophomore on the Jimmie men’s soccer team, scored the only goal in a 1-0 Jimmie victory over Bellevue to open the season last Wednesday. The Leeds, England, native also scored a goal and had a game-winning assist Friday against Benedictine College, who was ranked No. 19 in the NAIA.
