Letter to the editor: Vandalism, garbage are ruining Pipestem Rifle Range

On my recent visits to the Pipestem Rifle Range, which I visit quite often, I was appalled to notice the ongoing vandalism and garbage lying around.

Shotguns shells, pop/beer cans, plastic bottles are lying around everywhere. Also, this past summer, I have noticed two television sets dumped out there. In the past month, someone has tipped over the heavy, concrete benches and destroyed posts on the target ranges. There are five ranges that have been shot apart.

Over the years I have enjoyed shooting out there. There are a lot of people like myself who use this facility and are thankful it is available to the public. It is a very nicely built shooting range, but it needs to be monitored and maintained. I would hate to see this taken away from the public. It is upon all shooters who use it to take the initiative to police the targets and clean up after themselves.

I also have the vehicle license number of a person responsible for the damage out there. I’ll give that person 10 days to fix what was damaged, or I will turn in the license number to the police.
