Hubacker is Unison
Ernest Hubacker’s interest in making train pictures started a long time ago in Cheboygan, Mich. The house he lived in with his mother was two blocks away from the tracks. Those are his earliest memories at 3 and 1/2 years old. Similar train-lovers are called rail fans. Hubacker has been one for 93 years.
His mother only lived there a short time. Then she moved to a farm in the country. There were no more trains to see.
Hubacker spent many evenings drawing locomotives. He kept the interest into adulthood, and made portraits of Detroit and Machinau engines during the weekends.
His first two complete portraits were sold, one to the Cheboygan station agent and the other to the locomotive engineer, each for $.50. Hubacker moved away to seek his fortune in Chicago. Big city attractions became a distraction from any
more picture drawing.
Now Hubacker hopes that maybe those complete portraits may still be in existence as family heirlooms.
He is trying to locate at least one of them and hopes the person that has one of them will send a photo copy of it.
