The second of back-to-back nights out on the soccer field for the Blue Jay boys resulted in the same result at Rotary Field on Friday.
Jamestown fell 6-0 at Bismarck St. Mary’s on Thursday, and fell by that same margin to Minot at home 24 hours later. But Blue Jay coach Colin Rose explained Friday night’s loss to the Magicians was an easier pill to swallow.
“(Thursday) was a lot more disappointing than tonight,” Rose said. “St. Mary’s just didn’t show up to play, and neither did we. It was definitely the ugliest first half of soccer we’ve seen.
“We came out quite a bit quicker (Friday), and came out with a better attitude,” Rose continued. “Minot is just in a different class than St. Mary’s. They just didn’t break down.”
The Magicians took a 1-0 lead into the second half, when Minot’s Ekow Annan exploded for three second-half goals helping the Magicians improve to 4-2-1 overall and 3-2 in the West Region.
Jamestown goalkeeper Hunter Munson collected six saves in the loss.
“Our defense was kind of lost because of their passing,” Rose said. “They did a whole lot of give-and-gos, and if it didn’t work they just did more give-and-gos.
“They played well as a team and it showed up on the scoreboard.”
Friday’s match against Minot kicked off six straight home games for the Blue Jays (1-7, 1-3 WR). They’ll face Bismarck High at Rotary Field Tuesday.
“We are actually excited to play Bismarck on our home field. It seems whenever we go to The Bowl we’re scared of the turf,” Rose said. “We’re just a lot more comfortable at home. We should have a good little run here.”
