Two injured in motorcyle crash

Two people were injured Sunday morning when a deer ran into the motorcycle they were riding, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.

Mark S. Gusaas, 55, Horace, N.D., was the driver of a 2012 Harley Davidson that was part of a Harley Owners Group annual ride. Twenty-four motorcycles were in the group going from Fargo to Jamestown as part of the ride, with the Gusaas bike the third bike.

The bikes were westbound on N.D. Highway 26 just west of Sibley, N.D. at Lake Ashtabula when two deer crossed the road, the second of which ran into the left side of Gusaas’ motorcycle. The motorcycle then tipped to the ground and began to roll, causing Gusaas and his passenger, Valerie J. Gusaas, 52, Horace, to be dismounted. Both riders were wearing helmets; both were injured and taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital, Valley City, N.D. Mark Gusaas was taken by air ambulance to Sanford in Fargo.

The motorcycle was totaled.
