BELFIELD, N.D. (AP) — Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will cut overgrown grass and weeds along its track after officials in the western North Dakota city of Belfield complained that the vegetation is creating a fire danger.

The Dickinson Press reported that Belfield City Auditor Cindy Ewoniuk mailed a letter to BNSF’s property tax department in Fort Worth, Texas, a month ago after people living near the tracks complained.

Ewoniuk said the weeds and tall grass are not attractive, and sparks from passing trains could cause a fire.

BNSF official Amy McBeth has contacted an area railroad official, who notified the city the foliage will be cut.
