Travis Hafner is still hoping to play again this season.
According to the Cleveland Indians website on Wednesday, Hafner “has been hitting and doing core/cardio work. (He) will likely take batting practice with team when it returns home.”
Hafner, who is hitting .239 with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs, has been sidelined since suffering a back injury on Aug. 6. He was placed on the disabled list three days later.
Hafner’s absence has coincided with a major collapse by the Indians. At the All-Star break, Cleveland was 44-41 and just 3 games out of first place in the AL Central. Since then they’ve gone 15-42 and fallen into the cellar.
