Athletes selected for weekly award

Josie Hegerle and Jordan Weil of Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Kayla Byle and Tyler Baukol have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Josie Hegerle and Jordan Weil of Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Kayla Byle and Tyler Baukol have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Hegerle, a junior on the Blue Jay volleyball team, had 60 assists, 5 aces, 5 blocks and 38 digs in helping JHS to an eighth-place finish at the Southwest Minnesota Challenge last weekend in Marshall.

Weil, a senior on the JHS football team, had six solo tackles and two assisted stops and a fumble recovery in the Blue Jays’ 13-7 win over Mandan on Sept. 7.

Byle, a junior from Kalispell, Mont., on the JC soccer team, had 31 saves in four matches for the Jimmies as they went 2-1-1. She also recorded a shutout.

Baukol, a freshman from Detroit Lakes, Minn., on the Jimmie men’s golf team, earned medalist honors with a round of 72 at the Mystic Open at Prairie West Golf Course Sept. 4. The Jimmies also won the team title. Baukol was also 19th at the Augsburg Invitational at Majestic Oaks in Minneapolis. He had rounds of 79 and 78 for a total of 157.
