BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Two North Dakota hunting seasons open this weekend.
The state Game and Fish Department says the sandhill crane season opens Saturday. It runs through Oct. 21 in areas east of U.S. Highway 81, and through Nov. 11 to the west of the highway.
Hunters are urged to use caution so they don't shoot any endangered whooping cranes, which sometimes migrate with sandhills.
North Dakota's two-day youth waterfowl season is this weekend. Licensed resident and out-of-state youths age 15 and younger can hunt ducks, geese, coots and mergansers statewide. The young hunters must be accompanied by an adult.
