Samantha Goff led the Jimmie women again, while David Londe had the top time for the debuting JC men Friday in Minot.
Londe’s 28-minute, 8-second run placed him 15th out of 37 runners at the Wiley Wilson Memorial cross country meet.
“It was a good start team-wise,” JC men’s cross country coach Ed Crawford said. “Really, I thought all of our guys ran pretty well for our first time out.”
The Jimmies were fifth behind Dickinson State, University of Mary, Valley City State and Minot State.
Spencer Kamoni (29:01) was the second Jimmie across. Freshman Kyle Nielsen, Connor Doppler and Joe Jensen rounded out the top five.
“Time-wise, I was really pretty happy with our guys,” Crawford said. “Dave and Spencer ran good, solid races, and then some of our freshmen did pretty well for themselves.”
Goff, also a freshman, was the top finisher for the JC women again. With All-American Aleona Reyes still sidelined due to illness, although she is improving, the Jimmies were short-handed.
“Overall we were a little better as a team from the Valley City meet,” coach Jim Clark said. “Some of these kids have never run that distance (5K).”
The Jimmies ran against four Division II teams. Mary dominated with the top 8 finishers.
“The runners at the top were pretty good,” Clark said.
Goff finished in 20:15, the second-best time from a non-Mary runner.
“Samantha ran a really good race,” Clark said.
Katie Blais (20:55) and Andrea Markwart (20:59) were 17th and 18th, respectively. Sheyenne Stewart (21:49) was 29th. Bernie Bachel (22:18) rounded out the top 5.
“Bemidji beat us soundly in Valley, but we beat them today,” Clark said. “So we made a little progress there.”
The Jimmies next meet is Sept. 29 in Minneapolis at the Roy Griak Invitational.
