Lind, Wanzek go 1-2 in diving

Alex Lind and the Jamestown High School divers had another strong outing.

Lind placed first off the board at the Bismarck Invitational on Saturday, helping the Blue Jays to a seventh-place team finish in the 12-team meet.

Lind soared to a score of 424 points to comfortably outdistance the field.

The chase for second was tight, but that too went to a Blue Jay as Abby Wanzek’s mark of 363.50 earned her runner-up honors. Both Lind and Wanzek’s dives were state-qualifying efforts. Lind, of course, is the state champion in the event.

Morgan Mewes and Abbie Conlon also placed. Mews was 12th (273.15), while Conlon’s 271.80 was good for 14th.

Swimming-wise sophomore Annie Hart had the top finish for the Blue Jays, placing third in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.26. She also garnered a fifth-place finish, touching in 26.68 in the 50 free.

Kamie Wagar had an impressive sixth-place effort in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 1:05.10. She also placed in the 100 breaststroke, coming in 12th in 1:17.07.

The Blue Jays’ top relay finish came in the 200 medley as Hart, Wagar, Paige Peterson and Camille Kawawski teamed for a time of 2:03.73, which was good for sixth.

The Blue Jays finished with 155 points on the day, finishing ahead of Bismarck, Fargo Davies, Fargo South, Grand Forks Red River and Wahpeton.

Fargo North edged Bismarck Century for the team title, 391-374.

Up next for the Blue Jays is a trip to Grand Forks with a double dual against Central and Red River on Friday followed by the UND Invitational Saturday.
