ND man charged with rape pleads to lesser charge

A 26-year-old Fargo man who was accused of raping a 16-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to a less severe charge.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A 26-year-old Fargo man who was accused of raping a 16-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to a less severe charge.

The Forum newspaper reports that Bashir Abdi Noor would have faced a minimum mandatory sentence of 20 years in prison if convicted of the Class AA felony charge of gross sexual imposition that was originally filed against him.

Noor pleaded guilty Monday to solicitation of a minor, a Class C felony carrying a maximum penalty of five years in prison. He will be sentenced later.

Authorities say the assault took place June 2 outside the Somali Business Center in Fargo. Police say the girl escaped and alerted others, who chased Noor.
