Sierra Bennion and Maria LeFevre each placed in the top 5 for the Jamestown High School golf team on Monday.

Bennion was third and LeFevre fifth on a tricky weather day at the always challenging Rolla Country Club.

“(I) liked the fact that Sierra and Maria both finished in the top 5,” JHS coach Dean Kraft said. “Maria is definitely rounding into form for the stretch run.”

Bennion posted a score of 85, just two behind medalist Lindsay Reede of Bismarck Century and one strike off runner-up Rachel Jahner of Dickinson. Bennion, only a freshman, was coming off her first varsity victory Sept. 17 at Mandan’s Prairie West.

“It was good to see Sierra in contention again,” Kraft said. “Rolla always plays tough so scores were up as we expected. (But) our top two had very respectable scores, though.”

The Blue Jays finished fifth as a team at 417. Bismarck Century took team honors and were the only team under 400 at 370.

Seventh-grader Sarah Azure finished at 117. Kaitlyn Mullowney and Mara LeFevre each had 125.

With the regular season in the books, the Blue Jays head back to Mandan for the West Region meet Monday at Prairie West. The state meet will be held on the same course Oct. 1-2.
