ND stiffens rules for female cattle imports

North Dakota has stiffened cattle import rules because of cases of a bovine venereal disease in other states.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota has stiffened cattle import rules because of cases of a bovine venereal disease in other states.

State Veterinarian Susan Keller says the Board of Animal Health recently voted to tighten the restrictions for female cattle imports because of concerns about trichomoniasis (trihk-uh-muh-NY’-uh-sihs), which can cause infertility and miscarriages in cattle.

Keller says officials expect more cattle to be brought into North Dakota this fall because of drought in other states.
