Letter to the editor: Nonprofits like Arts Center need the public’s support

Nonprofit organizations struggle to move forward every year to provide communities with valuable services. In difficult economic times, these entities are the first to be cut financially from numerous budgets. The majority of these organizations continue to exist in large part by the support they receive directly through the residents of communities they serve.

The Jamestown Arts Center is one of those valuable organizations central to the many lives it serves in our area. It offers some badly needed culture into our lives that is unavailable in so many other sectors of our city.

The arts do not just expose us to the magic of paintings and drawings, but an entire myriad of other genres. They bring us the actors who perform in numerous plays, the musicians who bring us a certain harmony in life and the art of landscape and plants that enrich the environment around us. They bring sculptures of expression, ethnic foods from around the world, different textiles that fill our everyday lives and photography that can take us to places never dreamed.

Without this organization here, we would become just another cultureless community striving for something better. Thankfully that is not the case today as the Arts Center continues to serve the community.

Support the Arts Center today by becoming a member through its very reasonable annual rates. Student rates are $15, senior rates are $20, individuals are $35, and families are $50. Not only are these memberships inexpensive, they all come with a discount annually for events at the center. Visit its website today for more information at www.jamestownarts.com.

The Arts Center has exposed me to so much more in life and has allowed me to enjoy other people’s creative edges. Let’s ensure that the center always remains an integral part of our community by offering any type of support we can afford. Without them in our lives, we would become just a shell of our true being!
