WEST FARGO — The Costco Wholesale store being built near the intersection of Interstate 94 and Veterans Boulevard in West Fargo is set to open Oct. 23.
The new store has essentially hired the estimated 200 employees it will need, but hopefuls should continue to apply because there is always turnover, said Angela Bauer, manager of the new store.
About 25 employees are transfers from other Costco locations and the remaining 175 are being hired from the community, said Bauer, who added construction is going well and it is anticipated the store will open on schedule.
The West Fargo Costco will be the first in North Dakota.
The other nearest stores are in Winnipeg and the Twin Cities.
The opening of Costco in West Fargo is expected to usher in a fresh spurt of commercial development in the same area, said Mark Vaux, West Fargo’s economic development and community services director.
“Costco will be what we consider the anchor of the economic development and growth down on Veterans Boulevard,” he said.
“We look, in the coming months, to fill all of the out lots and spaces surrounding that, going west along the interstate and south on Veterans (Boulevard),” Vaux said.
He said interest in the store has been very high, if the number of people applying to work there is any indication.
“They’ve had 3,000 applicants. That’s phenomenal,” Vaux said.
