The first half of the season has been good to the Jamestown College men’s soccer team.

The Jimmies played for the ninth time in their 18-match schedule on Wednesday, using a trio of goals from Dominic O’Connor to thrash Mount Marty (S.D.) 7-1 at the Jimmie Soccer Field.

Undefeated Jamestown College (9-0) exploded for five goals in the second half including all three from O’Connor, who started the onslaught with a score in the first minute of the second half. His next two goals followed, completing the performance in a span of less than 16 minutes.

George Gauld, the Association of Independent Institution’s athlete of the week, scored at the 64:43 mark. Mount Marty came back with its only goal when Ludwin Arana found the back of the net, but Calen Roberts for Jamestown College answered that 2 minutes later with his own score. O’Connor assisted.

Jamestown’s Austin Dillard slipped a kick by both a Mount Marty defender and goalkeeper Oscar Martinez-Mojica in the first half to give the Jimmies an early lead.

Jack Keeling, who assisted on the first goal, dribbled around a diving Martinez-Mojica and calmly kicked in the match’s second score, as the Jimmies took a 2-0 lead into the break.

It was a quiet day for Jimmie goalkeeper Thomas Cooke, who stopped three shots in the win despite allowing a late goal. JC coach Philip Bohn could not be reached for comment.

Jamestown College plays host to Bethel University (Minn.) on Wednesday.
