BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota's Supreme Court has refused a request to put a medical marijuana initiative on the November ballot.
In a brief order Wednesday, the court said it won't intervene in the dispute.
Secretary of State Al Jaeger wouldn't put the proposal on the ballot because of what he said was evidence of petition fraud. Medical marijuana supporters were asking the Supreme Court to override Jaeger. They say some petitions were valid, and Jaeger didn't try to sort them out.
The secretary of state says he's pleased by the court's decision. He says dozens of North Dakota counties are already having their ballots printed.
Fargo state Rep. Steve Zaiser is chairman of the initiative campaign. He says he's disappointed that “a lot of work went down the drain.”
