JRFD responds to Cargill Malt call

An equipment malfunction that caused smoke at Cargill Malt in Spiritwood, N.D., on Thursday was contained by the Jamestown Rural Fire Department, according to Rich Woehl, rural fire chief.

“It was a bearing failure, but it was contained to the outside of the elevator leg,” he said. “We just washed the dust off and it was just smoke — nothing big.”

JRFD was dispatched to Spiritwood — about 10 miles east of Jamestown — at approximately 3:20 p.m. and cleared the scene at 5:15 p.m.

Five units and 19 firefighters responded to the scene.

No property damage or injuries were reported, and there will be no further investigation into the incident, Woehl said.
