Letter to the editor: By reacting to evil with evil, people grant bin Laden’s wish

Why don’t those folks who hate radical extremism in the Middle East the loudest realize that they are the American counterpart of what they decry and hate so much.

Why don’t those folks who hate radical extremism in the Middle East the loudest realize that they are the American counterpart of what they decry and hate so much. Their first reaction to violence is to return violence, to kill the innocent with the guilty, to take vengeance. As long as returning evil for evil is our No. 1 priority, Osama bin Laden — who claimed even before 9/11 that we were in a “holy” war with Islam — will have won, even though he is dead.
