The Jamestown College women’s golf team earned runner-up honors on Thursday at the Cougar Invite in Morris, Minn.

With Ashley Barnhart’s round of 88 leading the way, the Jimmies finished behind only Concordia (Moorhead), 315-378.

“Another solid round for the ladies,” JC head golf coach Dustin Jensen said.

Barnhart, a freshman from Kenmare, N.D., finished just three strokes off the pace.

“Eighty-five was the individual champ, so I was pretty happy with our scores.”

Beth Ryan posted a 94 for the Jimmies and Nicole Stein a 97.

The Jimmie men had an off day, but still did finish third out of 10 teams. Their 322 was just two behind host Morris. Concordia (Moorhead) collected the team title at 309.

“The guys continue to battle, but there’s a lot we can do better,” Jensen said. “I’m happy we finished toward the top, but we should be shooting around 300 all the time.”

Jack Bietz and Tyler Baukol each carded 74s to tie for fourth for the Jimmies. Chris Rochon, Cameron Hunter and Tommy Rockis were separated by three strokes.

The Jimmies close out the first half of the season by hosting the 2-day Jamestown College Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Country Club. Play begins at noon Sunday and 8:30 a.m. Monday.

“Knowing the home course like we do, it’s a good opportunity to close out this part of the season on a high note and build some momentum going forward,” Jensen said.

The second half of the season begins in April.
