Six units and 12 firefighters of the Jamestown Rural Fire Department responded to a fire in a soybean field Friday, according to Rick Woehl, fire chief. The fire occurred about 13 miles north and four miles west of Jamestown and was reported about 4 p.m.

“A combine started the bean field on fire,” he said. “There was no damage to the combine and about 30 acres of the stubble burned.”

Woehl said a neighboring farmer assisted in containing the fire by digging fire breaks with a tractor and disk. Units from the Pingree Rural Fire Department also assisted in fighting the fire.

The fire caused no damage. Firefighters were on the scene about 90 minutes.
