FARGO, N.D. (AP) — An 88-year-old former North Dakota man who left high school to serve in World War II has received an honorary diploma.
Teddy Wong was drafted when he was a high school junior in 1943. Wong, who later owned a restaurant with his wife in Roseville, Minn., received an honorary diploma Saturday during the Fargo North High School's annual Hall of Fame Ceremony.
Won tells WDAY-TV that it took him nearly 70 years, but he was finally ready to graduate.
Wong was born in North Dakota, spent his early school years in China, and his family moved back to Fargo when he was 13. Halfway through his junior year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served three years during World War II.
