Blue Jay cross country places sixth at McDowell Dam

The Jamestown High School boys cross country team put two players in the top 30 en route to sixth place at the Anderson-Stavn Invite Saturday at McDowell Dam, which just east of Bismarck.

The Blue Jays had a team score of 169 in the seven-team meet. They were led by Kyle Schumacher, who placed 25th with a time of 17 minutes, 25.47 seconds. Teammate Michael Sorensen ran a 17:28.48, good for 27th place. Aaron Ford (38th), Kyle Gee (45th) and Jake Lorig (48th) rounded out the scoring for the Blue Jays, who were far behind meet-winner Bismarck High and its point total of just 24.

Heralded runner Jake Leingang beat the competition by 40 seconds.

The Blue Jay girls saw Maya Moltzen finish in 25th place, posting a time of 16:40.25. Rachel Morin (42nd), Ligia Schulz (45th), Emma Bennett (52nd) and Anna Larson (54th) completed the team total.

Barnes County North’s Tess Scott was the highest area placer, taking 13th with a 15:46.

Bismarck scored a 22 to beat Century for the team title, led by winner Brittany Brownotter.

The Blue Jays will head to a meet in Willmar, Minn., on Saturday.
