Alverta Kapp, 83, Stanwood, WA, formerly of Medina, ND, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 in Stanwood.
Alverta was born April 27, 1929 in Medina, the daughter of Albert and Dorothy (Presler) Donat. She lived on a farm at Kulm, then moved with her parents to south of Medina. She attended grade school at Kulm and Streeter. Alverta married Kenneth Kapp in 1947 and moved to the Kapp farm less than two miles away. She helped on the farm and raised three children. She was also known as an excellent seamstress and cook. Kenneth died unexpected in 1982 and Alverta remained on the farm alone until moving to Medina in 1990. In 2002 she moved to Washington State to be near her sons and their families, yet truly missing her daughter and grandkids in Colorado.
Alverta was known as a jovial character filled with interesting stories. She loved socializing, enjoyed western movies and studied Indian folklore. Besides some limited stateside travel, she enjoyed a one week trek on a wagon train through old trails and taking the lead horse of the wagon train through a small town parade along the way. She spent one summer performing at the Frontier Village outdoor amphitheater in Jamestown.
Alverta is survived by her three children; Keith (PJ) Kapp and Kelly (Paula) Kapp, both of Washington state and Kathi Kapp, Westminster, CO; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Stacy, Kalie and Keaton; two great-grandchildren, Corey and Kaisha; and one brother, Marvin Donat, Bismarck, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
