District governor speaks at Jamestown Lions

The Jamestown Lion Club regular meeting was held Sept. 19, led by President Shelley Nannenga. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by John Lokemoen and the prayer by Ed Anderson.

Kristi Anderson introduced her guest, Cory Anderson, the new executive director of the James River Family YMCA. Nannenga introduced her guest and soon to be Lions member, Karmel Wanzek.

Mitzi Hager reported on the club’s tree planting project near the Jamestown dam and reservoir. Trees are expected to be planted next year.

The 24th Annual Jamestown Lions Buffalo Feed will be on Oct. 17 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Dwaine Heinrich and Mike Vettle were co-chairmen of the event, but Vettle has moved to Bismarck. All books of tickets, except one, are now in the hands of ticket sellers. The Buffalo Feed is the club’s major fundraiser of the year.

The club also acknowledged and congratulated Dick Hall for 50 consecutive years of membership in the club.

Vice District Gov. Fran Romsdal of the Jamestown Lions introduced District Gov. Mel Olson of Fargo. District Governor Olson is a Montpelier, N.D. native and now oversees 60 Lions clubs in the eastern half of North Dakota and hopes to add two new clubs during the coming year. Olson discussed his plans for the upcoming year as well as the state convention. He asked members to focus on service to the community and to embrace the changes necessary in order for clubs to continue to be a force for good in their community and state.

The next meeting will be at the Buffalo City Grill at 6 p.m. Oct. 3. Visiting Lions and guests are always welcome.
