Shannon Amyotte, operations manager at the Anne Carlsen Center, was the guest speaker at the Jamestown Rotary Club weekly meeting. She was introduced by Rotary member Tom Eckstein.

Amyotte told the club about the community-based program in place through the ACC. The program began four years ago in response to a need to serve students who were too old to continue at the campus. The program began in Grand Forks and Jamestown and has grown to serve Fargo and Bismarck. The goal of the program is to give persons with disabilities some of the same experiences that all persons deserve, she said. Each client works with a staff member who helps the client with a list of goals and objectives. Funding for the program comes from the federal government and from funds raised through the Anne Carlsen foundation.

Quincy Backen presided over the meeting. “Happy Dollars” were collected by Sergeant at Arms Tom Boerger. The invocation was given by Rick Pfeiffer and Katie Andersen led the singing. Shirley Jackson gave a two-minute talk. Gail Martin reminded club members to sell tickets for the rose sale. Roses will be picked up at Don’s House of Flowers and the Buffalo Mall on Oct. 13.
